Worked examples and guides

Read buy orders, sell orders, and market averages

Use a worked transport example to distinguish a visible spread from an executable trade, account for market depth, and decide when an observation is too weak to use.

Reading market data

Choose a price that matches the decision

Current orders and historical averages answer different questions. The price checker keeps them side by side so you can distinguish an immediately available offer from a broader view of recent market activity.

Buy orders and sell orders

A sell order is the lowest observed listing from another player and is useful when estimating the cost of buying an item immediately. A buy order is the highest observed offer from a buyer and is more relevant when estimating an immediate sale. Neither value guarantees that enough quantity is available at the displayed price.

Large purchases can consume several price levels in the marketplace. For a production batch, verify the in-game order depth instead of multiplying one observed unit price by the entire quantity.

Historical averages

The 24-hour average reacts quickly to recent movement but can be affected by a short-lived event. Seven-day and four-week averages are slower and provide more context for an item with irregular trading. Comparing the periods can reveal whether the current market differs substantially from its recent baseline.

An average is not an active order. Use it to understand direction and stability, then use current orders to estimate what can be bought or sold now.

Cities, qualities, and freshness

Each city and item quality has its own observations. Compare the exact destination and quality required by the planned activity; combining them would conceal differences that matter for crafting, transport, and Black Market sales.

Data is reported by players running compatible data clients, so update frequency varies by market and item. When a row is missing or stale, confirm the price in game before using it for a high-value trade.
